I'm a music artist, how can I get a manager? How can a music producer get a manager? When is it the right time for a music artist to get a manager?

This one is for the MUSIC ARTISTS out there, on the ever-hot topic of when/how can one get a MANAGER... ⤵️

Today I'm answering a question: How can I get an artist manager? When is it the right time for a music artist to get a manager?

...this is my take on it, and how I like to approach it as a manager.

1 - put in the work first

(show consistency in your output, have an ongoing rhythm of expanding your project, I like to see an empowered individual who believes in their own work, not begging people to do it instead of them)

2 - don't chase, attract instead

(if you are chasing partners and collaborators, that's never a good sign. You want to work with people who are equally eager and excited about your project as you are)

3 - TRIAL PERIOD

(this one for me personally is a must, I start out with a trial period to see if we are a good fit; no harsh terms or long contract - let's see if we are a match. And as an artist, if you think from a business perspective, you should aim to test things, to check all angles, not just jump into the first sign of potential opportunity - after all, you are looking for a long-term collaboration)

4 - think like a business owner

(it's a creative business, but it's still a business! Approach it with a strategic mindset, and make your choices and partners accordingly - not because you NEED them to PUSH you forward, but because you KNOW they MAKE SENSE as a business PARTNER to help take your project to the next level ALONG with you - that's a whole different mindset)

5 - know when it's the right time

(right now, all the tools allow artists to take their careers very far on their own - so really ask yourself, have you done the best you can to uplevel your career, and is it the right time to bring on new people? What is the benefit of expanding the team, what's the next level of growth that will unlock?)

Fact is, a lot of people want to make a sustainable career in music - and it's totally possible - and even better is that right now it's such a great time to be an artist because anyone can take their project far.

❓ But the question is, are you thinking strategically, are you ready to expand the team and get a manager? Or a label? What's your game plan? Do you have a plan?

🔥 As I said, this is an ever-hot topic... so I would love to hear any thoughts and perspectives on the matter of artist teams and career expansion in the comments.
