As the name suggests, channel-hopping is switching from one communication channel to another. The term has been more commonly associated with switching between TV channels, but we have successfully transferred the skill into today's online environment.
Have you ever caught yourself checking out a variety of different sites, channels, and social media accounts upon finding something that is of interest to you, and you've done it within moments? That's the nature of today's consumer.
We have become so trained into having all information readily available that once something catches our attention, we will scan the space! At least I do. Let's say I discover a business or a person of interest, my first instinct is to check out all their socials, website, offerings, appearances, and all that is available. I will do a quick, but thorough "research", and if the thing feels legit - I'm in! And it only took a few moments.
This type of behaviour exposes an important fact.
Channel-hopping is a daily occurrence in the world of social media and online platforms. With that in mind, brands need to be very on point with their communication; they need to feel more real than ever to the consumer, especially with the surge of AI. They need to make sure that there is a whole lot of synergy between each and every aspect of their brand, and that behaviours and communication match across all of them.
When creating your branding and marketing strategy, it's important to remember to make everything cohesive. Your social media presence, the way you appear on interviews, the way your website looks and feels, as well as the customer journey, ads, and any other element that contributes to the expansion of your business.
Your aim needs to be alignment, synergy and cohesiveness. And not only that!
You've got to make sure that what you say and communicate to your audience is honest, authentic, and in integrity, because today's consumers care a lot about the type of impact that the brands strive to make. And obviously, as a business, your goal is to use anything you can towards your growth and success.
So make sure to be at your best, at all times and keep rockin' it!
